extremely tinfoil hat of me but really feel like the CS open fund closing is to use individuals to put pressure on the gov to reinstate it? doing the negotiating work that CS couldn't? regardless i seem to just want to pass around the same DIY 50 quid all the time. paid someone to help me write the bulk of an application recently(ish) but it felt like too much of a riddy to actually apply (wanted to go to wales to make noise music about medical leeches). go figure. wild to see people posting that they got 10k etc to make an album. will probably need to lean into funding avenues more rather than kid myself on that doing two bar gigs every weekend constitutes creativity enough for it to make up such a big proportion of my freelance income. also means i keep missing out on gigs i should really be at (if i claim to be a ~supporter of the scene~).

the little snide NGS "sorry but our betterment of society needs to be funded" post reanimates my commitment to the DIY. my whole relationship to "art" or the ways in which i try to carry it out fully lean into that idea that it's not economically productive. doing weird useless shit with my spare time and energy feels so disconnected from this idea of having to leverage art to be useful and only being able to achieve that by accepting money from people who've made that money by investing in the killing of palestinians.
yeah i'm not some national platform i just make bad music, but these gaffs thinking they're the only ones who can facilitate artistic conversation makes me desperate for some kind of UBI under which freak DIY folk community art shit could thrive.
i had sort of wanted to do a review of GI on here but the idea is fizzling beyond that note on community art*. the sandra george exhibition made me cry a number of times. at the footnotes on the closures of the centres for the blind she had photographed, her love for her son, (and maybe i have this wrong?) but also the fact that this was her first exhibition and also a posthumous one. space and credit for community art workers when you're dead. that's a little reactive of me but (as seamus and i spoke about in the studio a couple of days beforehand) community art is approached as something less cool than an obtuse found object exhibition where the invigilator tells you that the artist didnt want them to share anything about the work. okay cheers pal.

*although sitting in that radio car made me feel a sort of bizarre regretful nostalgia and cindy islam at listen gallery was extremely touching
